Can Sexual Intercourse be the Only Reason a Hymen May Rupture?
Sexual intercourse will rupture the hymen, however, it may also be ruptured due to a cause not related to sexual activity. Horseback riding, tampon use and activities requiring extreme flexibility may also be a cause. As a result, Hymenoplasty has become a very popular cosmetic surgical procedures for women.
During the Hymenoplasty procedure, Dr. Heather Diamond will repair the torn edges of the hymen making it virtually impossible to know that it was ever ruptured. Dissolvable stitches are used to reconnect the skin membrane that once partially covered the opening to the vagina This is a surgical procedure performed in our state-of-the-art surgical facility located at The First Glance Aesthetic Clinic and Surgery Centre. It’s about a 30-45 minute procedure done under local anesthesia, and it’s practically painless. After this type of hymen surgery, subsequent intercourse will typically tear the membrane causing pain and bleeding.
After the Hymenoplasty procedure, you can return to work in a day or two, depending on how you feel. Complete healing takes approximately 6-8 weeks.
