What is Male Breast Reduction Surgery?

Male breast development aka Gynecomastia is a fairly common condition in males and generally occurs during the teenage years or later in the senior ages of life.
It can develop from the production of male breast tissue or simply be fatty in nature. It can be caused by a number of factors such as hormonal change, weight fluctuations, genetics, prescription medications, marijuana or steroids. Often, enlarged male breasts can cause social and emotional anxiety or discomfort. Due to this, some males avoid physical activities or even intimacy. Fortunately, there is an aesthetic surgery that can help.

Your Custom Breast Reduction Treatment Plan

When it comes to aesthetic surgery of any kind, there’s no such thing as one size fits all. Every patient has their own unique surgical needs.

Whether you are interested in a subtle natural look or dramatic results, your Male Breast Reduction will be fully customized according to your existing anatomy, unique surgical requirements, and desired aesthetic results.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery

Male Breast Reduction helps to re-contour and flatten the chest. Your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon may use a combination of Power-Assisted Liposuction and direct surgical excision to help eliminate the fatty tissue.

A tiny incision is made at the border of the areola or at the lateral border of the chest/armpit; then Power-Assisted Liposuction is used to remove the fatty tissue and remove any breast tissue in the chest. Any remaining tissue that is too dense to remove by Liposuction is directly excised through the incision.

This procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia and typically takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on the extent of surgery. Surgical drains maybe placed during your surgery and stay in place for 2-3 days to get rid of fluid that may build up after surgery. You can go home once the effects of anesthesia wear off after surgery and are required to wear a compression garment for 3-6 weeks to enhance your outcome.

Additional skin tightening procedures maybe required depending on the severity of your excess chest development. Skin tightening can be accomplished with BodyTite, an RF energy delivered under the skin surface through the same liposuction sites resulting in 30-40% skin tightening, or by direct skin excision resulting in a scar around the areola alone and/or in the natural breast crease.

Skin excision with a scar placed in the breast crease is generally reserved for the most severe cases or those with a great deal of loose skin which often occurs after major weight loss.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery is often performed with other non-surgical treatments, including Botox and injectable Filler treatments, including Lip Filler, Under Eye Filler, Jaw Contouring, Chin Filler, Top Model Cheekbones, Non Surgical Rhinoplasty, Belkyra Double Chin Fat Removal, and Skin Boosters.

Choosing Your Surgeon

When considering a surgeon, it’s important to research all of your options and choose a Surgical specialist who is Board Certified in both Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. While many plastic surgeons perform many different types of surgeries, you should select a surgeon who focuses strictly on a specific procedure and is recognized for excellence in this procedure.

What are the benefits if your surgeon has a reconstructive surgery background? Most of the world’s best aesthetic surgeons began with reconstructive practices. In fact, almost all of the groundbreaking techniques in aesthetic surgery have reconstructive origins.

Reconstructive surgery cases are typically more complex and often require highly specialized surgical techniques. Comfort, confidence, and predictability with advanced reconstructive surgery techniques have become powerful tools often adapted to aesthetic procedures.

All of the Plastic Surgeons at The First Glance are Board Certified Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgeons. Many of our surgeons are also Double Board Certified.
