Breast Lift in Winnipeg, at First Glance

Serving Patients Across Canada for 25+ Years

What is a Breast Lift?

Breast Lift surgery raises and reshapes sagging breasts, which may have lost volume and firmness due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or the natural effects of gravity and aging.

The position of your nipple/areola complex — the darker skin around your nipples — will be repositioned higher on your breasts for a more youthful, perky appearance.

During Breast Lift surgery, the excess saggy breast skin is removed, and your underlying supportive breast tissue is tightened to improve the position and shape of your breasts.

Breast Lift surgery will not increase the size of your breasts and will result in a ½ ‐1 cup size reduction just by simply tightening the skin. If you are interested in larger breasts with additional fullness in the upper pole of your breast, Breast Augmentation with implants or fat transfer can be performed with your Breast Lift for more dramatic results.

If you would like to decrease the size of your breasts, a Breast Reduction can be performed with your Breast Lift.

Types Of Breast Lift Surgery

There are three different surgical techniques and incision options for Breast Lift surgery. The different types of breast lifts vary according to how much skin needs to be removed.

The three most common Breast Lift techniques that our Board Certified Plastic Surgeons work with at The First Glance include:

  1.  The Peri‐Areolar Technique for very mild breast sagging.
  2. The Vertical Technique for mild to moderate breast sagging.
  3. The Anchor Technique for moderate to severe breast sagging

Together, you and your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will review all of your options in detail to
determine which type of Breast Lift is best for you.

The Periareolar Technique

The Peri‐Areolar Technique is used for very mild breast sagging. Think of this procedure as a
nipple/areola centralization procedure helping to centralize the nipple/areolar complex onto the
breast mound.

  • Your areola will be repositioned higher up on your breast.
  • Incisions will be made around the border of your areola.
  • A circular‐shaped piece of your breast skin — the lighter skin around your areola —
will be removed, and the size of the areola will be reduced.
  • Your scar will be hidden where your darker areola skin meets your lighter breast
    skin.
  • Your breast lift surgery will be custom‐tailored to your unique needs. Individual
    results may vary.
  • This type of lift is frequently performed during breast augmentation with implant
    surgery.

The Vertical Technique

The Vertical Technique, also called the lollipop technique, is used for mild to moderate breast
sagging.

  • Your areola will be repositioned higher up on your breast.
  • Incisions will be made around the border of your areola and straight down towards
the crease of your breast, resulting in a lollipop‐shaped scar.
  • Often combined in combination with Breast Augmentation.
  • Your breast tissue will be repositioned and sutured in place to reshape your breasts.
  • You will have two scars. One scar will be hidden where your darker areola skin meets
your lighter breast skin. Your second scar will go from the bottom of your areola straight down to  your breast crease.

The Anchor Technique

The Anchor Technique is used for moderate to severe breast sagging. This type of Breast Lift is
also called The Inverted T. This is the most common type of Breast Lift surgery. This is a
preferred technique for women who have lost a significant amount of weight resulting in excess skin and for severe volume loss following pregnancy and breastfeeding.

  • Your areola will be repositioned higher up on your breast.
  • Incisions will be made around the areola, down the middle, and along the base of
your breast. The incisions will result in the shape of an upside‐down “T.”
  • The incisions for The Anchor Technique allow for the maximum removal of skin and
    shaping of the breast.
  • Often combined in combination with breast implants.
  • An auto‐augmentation where the deep layers of your breast tissue are sutured
together and repositioned higher for new, beautifully shaped perky breasts is often performed.
  • Your scar will be in the shape of an upside‐down “T” from the base of your areola
and along the base of your breast crease.

Choosing Your Surgeon

When considering a surgeon, it’s important to research all of your options and choose a Surgery specialist who is Board Certified in both Aesthetic; Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. While many plastic surgeons perform multiple surgeries, you should select a surgeon who focuses strictly on a specific procedure and is recognized for excellence in this procedure.

What are the benefits if your surgeon has a reconstructive surgery background?

Most of the world’s best aesthetic surgeons began with reconstructive practices. In fact, almost all of the groundbreaking techniques in aesthetic surgery have reconstructive origins. Reconstructive surgery cases are typically more complex and often require highly specialized surgical techniques. Comfort, confidence, and predictability with advanced reconstructive surgery techniques have become powerful tools often adapted to aesthetic procedures.
