Botox is a brand of neuromodulator that works to relax the muscles of the face and neck. Neuromodulators can smooth lines and wrinkles, giving a smoother, softer, more youthful appearance.

At The First Glance, we are pleased to offer two brands of neuromodulators – Botox and Dysport. At the time of your consultation, your Expert Nurse Injector will determine which neuromodulator is best for your unique needs to achieve optimal results.

DYSPORT VS botox

A major distinction between Botox and Dysport (we offer both) is the approved areas of use. Dysport targets frown lines between eyebrows and is optimal for moderate to severe wrinkles. Not everyone is a proper candidate for Dysport. Botox is more suitable for mild to moderate wrinkles, such as crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, and laugh lines. At the time of your consultation, your Expert Nurse Injector will determine which neuromodulator is best for your skin's unique needs to achieve optimal results.

Lines and wrinkles on the face are caused by facial expressions and muscle contractions that repeatedly crease the skin. Common facial expressions that cause wrinkling include frowning and squinting.

Botox is a clean protein that works by blocking nerve impulses in the injected muscles to reduce muscle activity. As a result, this weakens and relaxes the muscles, preventing them from contracting, so they no longer crease your skin.

As your skin cells renew and regenerate, your skin will gradually soften and smooth out over time.

Maintaining your touch-up treatments is key (the effects of Botox injections are temporary). Refresher appointments are typically set for every 3 to 4 months.

On the day of your treatment, your injector will meet you in a private treatment room to discuss your aesthetic goals in detail. After a full assessment of your facial anatomy, expression lines and wrinkles, your injector will determine the proper dosage of Botox for your treatment.

Before your injections, your skin will be cleansed at the injection sites to remove any makeup or oil from the surface of your skin to prevent infection. If you can, please come to your appointment without makeup on. After cleansing the skin, your injector will inject neuromodulators with an ultra-fine needle (which may feel like a light pinch). Appointments typically last 10 to 30 minutes. You may see some swelling and redness post-procedure which typically resolves within an hour.

Things You Need To Know Before Your Botox Treatment

We want you to achieve outstanding results and love your fresh, smooth, revitalized skin. Here’s some important information about Botox to help you along the way.

Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding cannot get Botox treatments.

Please avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before your injections to minimize bruising.

After your injections, you may feel slight discomfort and be tempted to rub or massage the injection sites; this is to be avoided. DO NOT rub, massage or apply pressure to the treated areas for 24 hours after your treatment.

DO NOT apply make-up for 4 hours after your treatment.

DO NOT lie down for 4 hours after treatment.

DO NOT engage in strenuous exercise for 4 hours after treatment.

Follow-up with your injector in two weeks to ensure your injector is able to understand how your facial muscles reacted to your treatment.
