What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is the medical term for a “Nose Job” or “Nose Reshaping.”

Rhinoplasty, also known as anose job, is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of the nose.

The nose is a central and signature feature of the face. The natural position of the nose makes it difficult to hide flaws we feel uncomfortable with. If you feel embarrassed, inhibited, or uncomfortable by the size, shape, or projection of your nose, Rhinoplasty may be the perfect solution for you.

Rhinoplasty is often performed for aesthetic reasons; however, this procedure can also address breathing problems caused by injury, impact, or natural nose defects present from birth.

Rhinoplasty can also enhance the facial profile. The procedure can be used to refine the appearance of the bridge of the nose, as well as to create a more defined tip. This can lead to a more youthful and attractive appearance.

The aesthetic benefits of rhinoplasty are not just limited to the nose. The overall facial balance and symmetry can be improved, leading to a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. The procedure can also be used to correct any facial asymmetry or deformities, creating a more balanced and attractive facial balance.

Proper Candidates For Rhinoplasty

Whether your concern is a bump on the bridge of your nose, a bulbous oversized tip, an asymmetrical shape, wide nostrils, or a flat bridge, you are likely a candidate for Rhinoplasty.

Flattened Bridge or Crooked Nose

In some cases, the bridge of the nose is flat and needs more projection. Rhinoplasty is a successful way to enhance the features of your face. Straightening the nose is typically performed during Rhinoplasty to add beautiful structure, sharper features, and facial symmetry.

Misshaped Nostrils

Wide, protruding, long, or asymmetric nostrils can be reshaped, so they become a less prominent feature on your face.

Curved Nose bridge

Excess cartilage, bone, or both can create a curved bump on the bridge of your nose. In some cases, creating an undesired amount of projection. Smoothing it with Rhinoplasty can dramatically improve your profile and overall appearance.

Undesired Shape of noes tip

A bulbous, drooping, or pinched nose tip can be reshaped with Rhinoplasty to create a beautiful new contour.

Types Of Rhinoplasty

Whether your concern is a bump on the bridge of your nose, a large bulbous tip, an asymmetrical shape, wide nostrils, or a flat bridge, you are likely a candidate for Rhinoplasty.

Aesthetic

Rhinoplasty is typically performed for aesthetic reasons such as size, projection, shape, smoothing a bump, adding volume to a flat bridge, correcting asymmetry, or altering nostril shape and size.

Ethnic

Ethnic Rhinoplasty restructures the nose to enhance other ethnic facial features. The most effective and beautiful results are achieved with an artistic eye and full evaluation of the individual’s facial structure—subtle changes to honor heritage while creating a more attractive look.

Functional

Functional Rhinoplasty resolves structural problems that affect healthy breathing. The function of the nose, along with appearance, is often addressed in a single surgery.

Non-Surgical

Some patients who require minor revisions can achieve excellent results without undergoing surgery. An injectable filler treatment can raise the nose tip, smooth a slight hump, or create a more attractive nose tip.

Revision Surgery

Poorly-performed or failed Rhinoplasty may make it necessary to undergo Revision Rhinoplasty surgery to correct an undesired results.

Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty

Open Rhinoplasty

Open Rhinoplasty is a nose reshaping procedure that involves an incision in the columella, the strip of tissue between your nostrils. The incision for open Rhinoplasty is strategically placed so it will be invisible once healed. Open Rhinoplasty is appropriate if you require more extensive corrections, particularly to the nasal tip. Many plastic surgeons advise this technique as there is more control in surgery and less risk of errors that could require correction later.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Many patients are interested in “scarless” Rhinoplasty, also known as the closed technique. Closed Rhinoplasty incisions are created within the nostrils, so no visible scars are seen. This method is not appropriate for extensive corrections to the nose tip, or even the nose bridge. Only your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon can advise you which surgical approach is the most appropriate in your case. If closed Rhinoplasty is possible, you will experience faster healing time, and no incision lines will be seen.
