What are Chin & Cheek Implants?
Key Benefits of Chin and Cheek Implants
Both chin and cheek implants offer several benefits such as:
- Improved facial symmetry
- Improved facial balance
- More defined facial features
- A more youthful appearance
- Improved self-confidence
An alternative to temporary injectable fillers, Chin and Cheek implants offer a permanent solution to improving enhancement, refinement, and harmony of the face.
If you have a round or square face with weak bone structure and you’re interested in adding more definition to your face, cheek implants are an excellent way to create higher, more prominent cheekbones to add a desirable shape to your face. Similarly, a chin implant creates a beautifully defined profile by correcting a recessive chin for a more sculpted and contoured jawline.

Chin Implants
Chin implants work to improve the appearance of a weak or receding chin. This can dramatically improve the appearance of a person’s profile. A chin implant can create a stronger, more defined jawline, which can make a face look more balanced.
Different implant shapes are used in women and men. In women, the implant is more rounded in shape, which creates a more feminine appearance to the chin. In contrast, in men the implant is more square in shape, which provides a stronger and more angular chin. In both cases, chin implants can create the illusion of a slimmer face, which can be an attractive feature.
Chin Implants are Made of one of Two Materials:
We routinely utilize 3D simulation using the advanced Vectra imaging system to simulate the appearance of the chin following chin augmentation surgery. This is only a simulation and is not completely accurate, however it can give you an idea of the changes you can expect to see following surgery, and it helps us decide what size implant is best for you.
ADDITIONAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES
Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular procedures performed at the same time as Chin Implant surgery to improve the overall balance and structure of the face. A small, recessive chin can make your nose look much larger than it actually is. Strengthening your chin can make your nose look smaller and in perfect harmony with the rest of your face.
Together, you and your Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon will review all of your options in detail to determine which type of implant is best for you.
BOTOX, FILLER, AND LASER TREATMENTS
Chin and Cheek Implant surgery is often performed with other non-surgical treatments, including Botox and injectable Filler treatments.
Popular injectable Filler treatments include: Lip Filler, Under Eye Filler, Jaw Contouring, Non Surgical Rhinoplasty, Double Chin Fat Reduction, and Skin Boosters.
Popular Medical Grade Facials and Laser treatments include: MicroNeedling, Chemical Peels, PhotoFacials, and Morpheus8.

Cheek Implants
Cheek implants, also known as malar implants, are designed to augment the cheekbones, providing a more defined and chiseled appearance. The implants are designed to create a more youthful, balanced look by adding fullness and definition to the cheeks. By making the upper third of the face larger, cheek implants can make the lower portion of the face appear slimmer, which is a desirable facial feature.
As we age, we naturally tend to lose fat volume in our cheeks. Filling the cheeks with additional volume can dramatically reduce the effects of aging and provide a refreshed and revitalized appearance. In these cases, fat grafting to restore lost fat is a better option.
Cheek implants are a better option when a more dramatic change is required. They are an excellent option in patients who have always had flat and poorly defined cheeks. They are also an excellent option in transgender patients interested in facial feminization.
Cheek implants are made of MEDPOR (porous polyethylene), a stiff material which can be carved and shaped precisely. They are placed through an incision on the inside of the mouth, and are screwed in place to the underlying cheek bone to keep them in position. The advantage of this implant is that your own bone will grow into it, making it incredibly strong. As a result, attempting to remove these implants is extremely difficult.
Cheek implants are placed under general anesthesia, and the surgery takes about 2 hours to perform.
Choosing Your Surgeon
When considering a surgeon, it’s important to research all of your options and choose a Surgical specialist who is Board Certified in both Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. While many plastic surgeons perform many different types of surgeries, you should select a surgeon who focuses strictly on a specific procedure and is recognized for excellence in this procedure.
What are the benefits if your surgeon has a reconstructive surgery background? Most of the world’s best aesthetic surgeons began with reconstructive practices. In fact, almost all of the groundbreaking techniques in aesthetic surgery have reconstructive origins.
Reconstructive surgery cases are typically more complex and often require highly specialized surgical techniques. Comfort, confidence, and predictability with advanced reconstructive surgery techniques have become powerful tools often adapted to aesthetic procedures.
All of the Plastic Surgeons at The First Glance are Board Certified Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgeons. Many of our surgeons are also Double Board Certified.
