Do you want fuller lips but are sceptical of using a filler or Hyaluronic Acid Injection? How about volume in the cheeks, eyebrows, temples or tear troughs? Did you know you can use your own natural fat cells to add volume to, or re-sculpt areas of your body?
Yes!!! you read right. Use your own fat from one part of your body and inject it in the areas of your face that you feel have lost volume or that never had volume in the first place!!! And the best part is, after one or more fat transfer procedures your own fat can become permanent and give you that full youthful look you desire.
Fat Transfer or Fat Grafting (also known as Lipofill, Fat Injections) is a procedure that harvests fat from one area of the body such as the abdomen or thighs, and transfers it to another area that needs more volume.
Ageing, genetics, and weight loss are all reasons why some of us have lost that youthful appearance in our faces. Loss of fat volume in various areas of the body is a major reason why patients seek procedures like synthetic fillers or augmentation. Compared to hyaluronic acid injections, the effects of a fat transfer procedure last much longer and in some cases, the results can even be permanent.
Dr. Anthony P. Lockwood injects fat into the deep layers of tissue in the area you want filled out. The fat used is taken from another part of your body so there is no chance of allergic reaction.
Fat Transfer surgery is done under local anaesthesia in our state-of-the-art surgical centre located at The First Glance Aesthetic Clinic and Surgery Center.
What’s the recovery period after a Fat Transfer procedure?
As with most cosmetic surgeries, you will need to take time to recover. The recovery period will be different for each patient depending on the extent of the surgery, the area of the body, and the patient’s health.
After a Fat Transfer, most people feel uncomfortable for the first couple of days and depending on their occupation and extent of the surgery can return to work 1-week after surgery. Bruising, swelling and discomfort can last a couple of days, or up to 2-weeks.
Light exercise can usually begin 1-week after surgery and more strenuous exercise can be done after 3-weeks. Remember that it is important to follow an exercise maintenance program to achieve the greatest results from the surgery.
Are there any risks to Fat Transfer?
Fat Transfer is a low risk procedure, though bruising and infection may occur. The key to any procedure is to properly follow your post-care instructions to minimize any potential risks.
