Chemical Peel

Would you like to restore you skin’s youthful appearance? A chemical peel may be the answer you’re looking for. Chemical peels can minimize sun damage, blemishes, uneven skin tone and acne scars, and they can even soften those fine lines. A build-up of surface skin can cause the skin to look dull and devitalized. It can harbour bacteria resulting in acne breakouts, and take away our natural glow. By minimizing this dead surface skin, we can brighten and lighten our skin to refresh our appearance.

There are many different types of chemicals and percentages that can be used for chemical peels. Dr. Lockwood and your medical professional will decide what is best for you based on your skin type and what we are treating.

A layer of the chemical peel is applied to the surface of the skin. For about 4-5 minutes you will experience a “tingling”, “stinging” or “burning” sensation. A cooling device is used to reduce this sensation, which helps to make the treatment more tolerable. We usually recommend a series of four treatments to achieve optimal results. The chemical peel we provide is a mild, non-invasive treatment.

Downtime

With most chemical peels, you will experience redness for the first 24 hours. You can expect to have flaking or shedding of the skin for the next couple of days. You may have a 3-4 day span of dry and flakey skin, sensitivity, and a pink hue to the treated area but really down time is quite minimal.

Risks

The key to any treatment is to follow the proper post care instructions given to you by your medical professional. However, as with any treatment there are some possible risks and side effects. These risks are minimal but include redness, post inflammatory hyper pigmentation, and minor scarring.
