What is Breast Augmentation with Breast Lift?

Breast Augmentation or “Breast Implant Surgery”  involves opening a pocket in the breast tissue or under the pectoral muscle (subpectoral) to insert an implant. If a patient has a small amount of lose skin or hollowing of the breasts, an implant can fill out their existing skin envelope. Patients who have little to no breast tissue can achieve larger, fuller looking breasts by having a breast augmentation as well.

Mastopexy or “Breast Lift Surgery” comes into play with women who have saggy breasts or who have an excessive amount of skin and not enough breast tissue to fill it. Hollowing and sagging of the breasts can happen with age and loss of skin elasticity, pregnancy, or with weight fluctuation and it is actually quite common.

Having the Breast Implant Surgery and the Breast Lift together has many benefits if your are a candidate to have both done at the same time.

What are the Benefits of having both Implants and a Lift at the same time?

By having both procedures you are able to cut down your surgery cost by only having one facility fee as you are only having one surgery. You also only have to be put under general anesthetic once rather than twice for two different surgeries. On the surgical side of things you will have less down time away from work , family and everyday activities as you only have to recover once.

How do I know if I am a Candidate?

During your Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift Consultation, with Dr. Avi Islur will measure the amount of breast tissue you have compared to the amount of skin. From this assessment he will know if you are a candidate for both surgeries at once.

There are a few reasons why you may not be a candidate, one depends on the size of implants you are looking to have. Having a breast lift limits the amount of excess skin the physician has to work with, therefor the breast lift surgery may not be able to support a larger implant.

If you have lots of stretch marks on your breasts this means your skin has been compromised. More often than not a breast lift can remove the majority of the stretched and thinned skin but sometimes not all of it. In this case a internal bra can be used. An internal bra is cadaver skin that is used to reinforce your own thinned skin and in turn will assist in providing the proper support for an implant. This technique allows patients who have thin breast tissue to still be able to undergo a breast augmentation as well as a breast implant surgery.

What will my Recovery Time be like?

Every patients recovery time is different due to the fact that every patients healing time and pain tolerance is different. Generally it is suggested that you take 2 weeks of down time out of your lift for post surgery recovery. Again, you may require more or less time than this depending on how you recover.
