BLU-U for Acne

BLU-U is a non-UV light that offers a non-invasive and painless treatment for moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris, a problem facing millions of people around the world.

The BLU-U is a special blue light that can kill the p. acnes bacteria in your skin. You simply sit with your face close to the light for a short time at a schedule set up by Dr. Lockwood, usually a 15-minute session about once or twice per week. The treatments may go on for five weeks or so. It is safe, it is not hot, it is not painful at all. After some weeks, the blue light can control your acne, or clear it up for a very long period.

Acne occurs in people of all ages, not just teenagers. People in their 20′s, 30′s and 40′s have trouble with acne, both superficial and cystic. Although there are many lotions and creams (mild and strong) on the market that claim to target acne and clear the skin, often, they don’t work for everyone. With so many options these days, it can be an overwhelming and costly decision to make. There is now an option available for all skin types. Allergic reactions to creams, antibiotics and medications are no longer an issue with BLU-U Light Therapy.

How does BLU-U work?

BLU-U helps to clear up acne by producing free radicals to kill the P. acnes bacteria. Lights and lasers have different wavelengths and each one has a different target. The blue wavelength targets porphyrins that cause acne bacteria. The bacteria is then destroyed. Less bacteria equals less acne.

What are the risks and results of BLU-U?

The best part of BLU-U is that there are no risks! BLU-U is a completely non-invasive treatment to treat superficial acne breakouts. People of all ages can use this to help treat a breakout. Best results are achieved by doing 1 to 2 treatments a week. The BLU-U Light Therapy helps to keep the acne under control until it goes away or until it morphs into a different form of acne.

Is there any downtime after a BLU-U treatment?

Downtime is very minimal. Most people go on with their day, whether it be returning to work, out shopping ot meeting friends. There may be some redness immediatly after the treatment, but that will typically subside throughout the day.
