Breast Implant Exchange Patient #3

This 28 -year-old woman had a Breast Augmentation with Implants at another facility by another surgeon. She developed symmastia which the other surgeon attempted to correct but the issue continued. The patient came to The First Glance to see Dr. Avi Islur asking for the symmastia to be corrected as well as an increase in her implant projection.

Dr. Islur performed a revision breast augmentation with a pocket exchange (re-positioning the placement of the implant by recreating the breast implant pocket). He also placed higher projecting but narrower implants with an internal bra. By doing this, he was able to revise her previous surgery and correct her original “uni-boob” implant placement. The internal bra will prevent symmastia from occurring in the future. The before and after pictures you see were taken 2 months apart.

When might implants need to be taken out? Do they always need to be replaced? Although not guaranteed to last a lifetime, breast implants have been known to last a lifetime. However, sometimes they have to be replaced. It is best to anticipate a second surgery at some point during the lifetime. Exchanging implants is a concept that every woman should accept before undergoing breast augmentation. Exchanging might be because there is a problem. Or it might be because the woman wants to make a change. Come in for a Surgical consultation with Dr. Anthony Lockwood or Dr. Avi Islur to discuss your options and to see if you are a candidate for a Breast Implant Exchange .

Here are some of the reasons that women exchange their implants:

  • Leaks. The original silicone implant may have ruptured or might be leaking. Or the original saline implant may have leaked and is now deflated.
  • New product options.
  • New size.
  • Scar tissue.
  • Problem with original surgery.
  • Better shape.
  • Asymmetry.
  • Change the fill type.
